In the previous video we asked you to consider seriously the type of group you wanted as your first Strategic Conversation group.
The 1st Strategic Conversations group came together easily and naturally! Take 2 minutes now and listen to how easy and effective it was..
As you recall we discussed the two options, once composed of colleagues inside your industry, far flung members of your industry's trade association for example - or a group comprised of business owners across a spectrum of industries and business types.
Hopefully you have given that careful consideration - since it will have a great deal to do with your next step in the process.
Once you've concluded which of the two types of groups you want to start your journey with - the first person who you would like to accompany you will, we're sure, become self-evident.
Today, we are going continue along the path toward understanding what more you need to know to form your own Strategic Conversations group.
A principle activity at this juncture is to consider:
Your presentation - what you will want to say that will get their interest right away
Please note our emphasis in your completion of the entire 21 day program before inviting anyone to join your group. This series is designed to build your knowledge progressively, in a stepping stone fashion, so that at the end you will be confident is the process and your ability to gain the enthusiastic participation of your peers. So, please be patient and continue to take the recommended action steps.
Let’s begin with your presentation
In our experience we have found that it is emotion that motivates people to action. And that is particularly true when the actual visible bottom line benefits are not yet in view. Because Strategic Conversations' collaborations often result in actions not taken it will never be possible to absolutely quantify the values received.
As individuals and business owners we are under a great deal of pressure today. The day-to-day reality for the average business owner is survival, which means decisions that can not be seen to directly contribute to their profits right now, are easily put off "until things quiet down" - which never happens.
A Strategic Conversations group is really a group of people committed to helping each other no matter what. A group that will listen to each other; serve as advocates for each other; provide honest feedback to each other; share personal experiences; and encourage each other.
As humans, our roots are tribal. Members of a tribe feel they are part of something special - a bond, a team with a common purpose.
Many business owners have lost that connected feeling, and long for that type of support. This is the heart and soul of what a Strategic Conversations group is really about - a group of compatriots committed to helping each other no matter what.
When you present this concept to someone, get yourself in touch with that committed team feeling, and come from that place.
This is not networking, this about forming a powerful alliance that can change lives and move mountains for people! If you can convey that message and feeling, it will resonate on a deep level.
Some other talking points to weave into your presentation are:
A place to test ideas and strategies, check your assumptions, get honest feedback
To provide extended eyes and ears for each member
A group of people who will have your best interest at heart and you theirs
This is a good time to begin creating your own script - articulate the benefits, to enroll your first person in the group.
There remains some detailed information that will be covered in greater depth in upcoming videos, which explains why we want you to wait before crafting your invitation. This is information you will need to clearly understand so that it can be included in your invitation or on the tip of your tongue when the inevitable questions are asked. That information is:
That a Strategic Conversations group meets by teleconference call two times per month.
That each meeting is 90 minutes in length - but with zero time wasted in travel
That each group member will have between 10-15 minutes to focus on their business issues that day
These details as well as others will be required before you can spell out the opportunities as well as the commitments expected of each group member
In the coming days, begin to put your own thoughts together, what attracts you to the process and what you believe will attract your peers.
As we go forward your presentation will take shape and you will begin to expand and prioritize your list of potential members.
